Email Groups

Another email marketing method is to post messages in mailing groups.
These are three of the major groups on the web. Browse them and see what groups exist that might be of interest to you:

Lots of people focus much of their time and energy on marketing through these lists. We recommend allocating some time and energy to this as well, but make sure to do the following:

• Avoid posting messages about your business very often. Too many ads from the same source are often frustrating for the average person checking his email. Especially in the launch period you should be very careful not to get labeled as a spammer and a stalker.

• When joining a group, opt to receive a daily digest rather than individual emails. That way, your inbox won’t become cluttered with unnecessary emails.

• Familiarize yourself with your local community or city mailing lists and rules that govern those lists. Many times promoting a product or service via mailing lists can get you blocked from those lists, so make sure you adhere to the rules.

You can also start your own group, in which case you can email your members as often as you wish. Many website owners try to build a mailing list through these groups, but it is very hard to do so and we recommend against it, since this new group will require its own time-consuming marketing campaign. We suggest, instead, focusing your energies in targeted groups related to your niche.
